The dating game is getting so complicated that some people are hiring coaches to help them navigate the process.

One person who is willing to pay for such expert advice is Kristen Skaff, a 35-year-old Detroit-area lawyer, the New York Times reports. She attended a dating boot camp in Los Angeles and paid $10,000 plus expenses to fly expert David Wygant to Detroit for extra help.

Skaff said she learned her shyness came across as unfriendly. “He took a lot of time to tell you what you’re projecting energy wise—stuff you would never be able to self-diagnose,” she said. Now she has so improved her dating behaviors that her friends have taken notice.

Wygant told the newspaper how he helps clients during a weekend of coaching: “It may mean going out on the town and practicing flirting. It may even mean getting feedback on a simulated date. Everybody’s got a good personality. They just don’t let their personality out.”
