A 56-year-old Virginia lawyer was found fatally shot on Easter Sunday at home, along with her husband, and the couple’s 22-year-old son is facing two second-degree murder charges.

At a Monday court hearing for William Roy Brissette, who is also facing felony firearm charges, the judge refused to set bond after a prosecutor said there is a history of mental health issues and prior police responses at the family’s home, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

Brissette lived there with his parents, Henry J. Brissette III, 59, and Martha Brissette. She formerly worked for the Virginia attorney general’s office and was a policy analyst for the commonwealth’s board of elections before her death.

The defendant had called police and reported an apparent break-in, but “the evidence showed otherwise,” Lt. C.J. Eley of the Henrico County police told the Associated Press.
