A federal judge has acquitted Miller Canfield lawyer Hatim “Tim” Attalla, accused in a drug conspiracy involving the Highwaymen Motorcycle club.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to support allegations that Attalla acted as general counsel to the motorcycle club or that he helped the group carry out its drug business, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Prosecutors had alleged Attalla carried out the drug conspiracy by advising arrested individuals to keep silent about a club official’s involvement with drugs, by supplying the official with drugs, and by acting as general counsel to the enterprise.

Attalla’s lawyers had argued the only evidence of a drug conspiracy appeared to be the government’s claim that he gave a defendant a single Viagra pill.

After the acquittal, Attalla wrote about the verdict on his Facebook page, the Detroit News reports. “Truth and justice prevailed today,” he wrote. He had been on paid leave from his law firm.
