There will be no merger between Dickstein Shapiro and Bryan Cave, according to unnamed sources.

The potential merger was called off last week, the National Law Journal (sub. req.) reports. Its story relies on a lawyer at one of the law firms and two sources outside of the firms with knowledge of the discussions. The story says lateral hiring is active early in the year and Dickstein “may be vulnerable to the lateral market.”

The National Law Journal story followed a report by Bloomberg Big Law Business that said the merger talks apparently “hit a snag and may not happen at all.” Bryan Cave balked because certain Dickstein partners would not agree to a multi-year commitment to stay at the merged firm, the Bloomberg article said.

The Bloomberg report was based on eight sources who had “second- or third-hand knowledge of the development,” including consultants and former Dickstein partners.
