Atlanta-based Smith Gambrell & Russell has acquired Hartman & Craven, a 19-lawyer general practice boutique in New York.

The merger, which took place on Oct. 1, doubled the size of Smith Gambrell’s New York office, according to the Daily Report and a press release.

Smith Gambrell managing partner Stephen Forte told the Daily Report that the firm delayed the merger announcement to notify clients and work out integration of the New York office. Hartman & Craven is “deep in real estate, deep in transactional and corporate and they have a very good trusts and estates practice,” Forte said.

Smith Gambrell established an office in New York four years ago when it acquired seven-lawyer litigation boutique Bainton McCarthy, the Daily Report says.
