The Nevada Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in July concerning a 120-pound dog that killed a toddler at a birthday party in 2012.

The Rhodesian ridgeback mix, known as Onion, was surrendered by its owner to animal control authorities in Henderson after the death of Jeremiah Eskew-Skahan. However, animal rights groups spearheaded an effort to have the dog placed at a sanctuary and litigated in an effort to overturn the animal’s planned euthanasia and obtain custody, according to KVVU and the Las Vegas Sun.

The July 3 arguments are scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. and will be shown on the supreme court’s website.
