A new TV ad and petition campaign say it’s time for cameras in the U.S. Supreme Court.

A group called the Coalition for Court Transparency is airing the ads in the Washington, D.C., area on cable news outlets, including CNBC, CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC, according to press releases here and here. The BLT: The Blog of Legal Times and Politico’s Josh Gerstein blog have stories.

“The Supreme Court’s decisions impact the lives of Americans everywhere,” the ad says. “But only a privileged few get to witness history and see justice in action.”

The ad is financed by a charitable group called the New Venture Fund. Among the coalition’s 11 members are the Alliance for Justice, the Liberty Coalition, the Society for Professional Journalists and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.
