A Tennessee woman claims in a lawsuit that she suffered severe burns when coffee she bought at a Starbucks drive-up window spilled onto her hand and lap.

The plaintiff is 23-year-old Jordan Triplett, the Knoxville News reports. The suit claims the coffee lid was loose, and dislodged as she was turning onto the road. It seeks $250,000 in damages.

Lawyer Gregory P. Isaacs filed the suit on Triplett’s behalf in county court in Knoxville. He says Triplett suffered first- and second-degree burns from the coffee spill, according the Knoxville News story. The suit says Triplett asked Starbucks to cover her medical bills, but instead got an offer of a gift certificate.

A woman who sued McDonald’s for injuries suffered from a hot-coffee spill won a $2.7 million verdict, prompting scorn from critics of the tort system. The award was later reduced to $640,000.

Updated at 2:09 p.m. to reflect Triplett was found to have suffered first- and second-degree burns.
