Already in juvenile court for proceeding last week, the mother of a 9-year-old girl and her boyfriend are now facing a criminal case after authorities in Cherokee County, Georgia, learned the girl had been left alone at home, barricaded in a laundry closet.

Alerted by a Division of Family and Children Services worker that the girl had been left home alone while the couple was in court Thursday, Canton Police responded to the Canterbury Ridge Apartments, searched the family’s home and found the 9-year-old in the closet, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Cherokee Tribune (sub. req.). A folded walker braced outside the door prevented her from leaving the closet.

The girl was taken into protective custody, along with a 17-year-old sibling who was not at home at the time police searched it.

At last report, Amy Lynn Davis, 35, and Charles Adam Ellison, 34, were being held without bond on charges of cruelty to children and false imprisonment.
