The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a federal law suit against an Indiana law firm, contending that Mike Norris & Associates unlawfully refused to re-employ a former staff attorney after he returned from military duty in Iraq.
Mathew Jeffries initially filed a complaint over the alleged violation of Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) with the Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service. It determined that there was merit to his complaint and referred it to the DOJ, reports a PR Newswire press release.
The DOJ today filed suit in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis on behalf of Jeffries.
Additional details are provided in a subsequent Indianapolis Star article.

“Associates,” take heed!! Haven’t you ever wanted a spiffy set of dress greens? An officer’s commission? Opportunities to travel the world and meet interesting new people? The ability to come back after the recession and force your firms to reemploy you? See the friendly recruiting sergeant today! (Although the lines are growing, many enlistees lack literacy and clean police records, which should give you an advantage).

I am happy to see DOJ enforcing USSERA for Reserve attorneys (Judge Advocates) called to active duty. By the way, applications to the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps are up nearly 100%.

Rightly so. There’s twenty shillings on the drum, for them that volunteers to come. Coats and shirts and present pay, when over the hills and far away.
