Authorities in New Jersey's Washington Township apologized to a local municipal judge and prosecutor Tuesday after an e-mail blast posted their jobs to lawyers throughout the county.
The gaffe caused a stir a couple weeks ago when the Morris County Bar Association sent out an e-mail asking interested applicants to send resumes to town hall.
But, as the Daily Record notes, reports of the vacancies were greatly exaggerated.
Judge Frank P. Leanza has served the township 30 years and Prosecutor James DeMarzo for more than five. Neither had plans to move on.
Callers wanted to know what was wrong with Leanza and DeMarzo.
The embarrassing e-mail is an apparent new policy to review professional service contracts and invite competition on a regular basis, something the township still intends to do.
More than a dozen resumes were reportedly received for each position. Interviews will be conducted and a decision made in January.
