Elevate Services has announced that it is expanding its legal technology business by acquiring Legal OnRamp.

Paul Lippe, the founder and CEO of OnRamp Systems Inc., will serve on the advisory board of Elevate. Lippe is also an ABAJournal.com columnist. The Silicon Valley engineering team of Legal OnRamp will join Elevate.

In a Thursday news release, Elevate founder and CEO Liam Brown said his company expects the acquisition to enhance the technology-based services—including but not limited to document review and due diligence—that it offers to corporate law departments and law firms on a global basis.

“OnRamp’s technology provides a secure common platform enabling companies like Cisco to connect their legal departments with their outside counsel,” Brown said. “The investments OnRamp has made in machine learning will help us develop software that makes lawyers more effective and efficient. More immediately, OnRamp’s U.S.-based engineering team will improve our ability to deliver rapid prototype solutions for our clients.”

Lippe explained in the release that merger will help Legal OnRamp reach a broader market.

“Elevate has quickly become a leader in the legal market, and their ‘innovation DNA’ is very similar to ours,” Lippe said. “Looking at Elevate’s leadership, global reach, client base, and capabilities, we decided the best way to serve the market was to join forces.”
