Iowa ads debate Grassley's opposition to hearings on SCOTUS nominee

Retired Justice Sandra Day O’Connor’s comments on the Supreme Court nominations process are being featured in a television ad in Iowa.
O’Connor told a Fox News affiliate that she disagreed with the idea that President Barack Obama should decline to name a nominee to allow the next president to do it. “I think we need somebody there, now, to do the job, and let’s get on with it,” she said.
That clip is being used in an ad by a group calling itself Justice Not Politics, the Des Moines Register reports. Meanwhile, a group called Judicial Crisis Network is running ads supporting the opposite view.
Iowa is a battleground because it is home to U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, a Republican who is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. On Tuesday, Grassley said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that his committee won’t hold hearings on any Obama nominee.
The Judicial Crisis Network ads thank Grassley for “letting the people decide” through the presidential elections.
