Kirkland & Ellis is paying top dollar for some lateral hires as it beefs up it commercial real estate practice.

The law firm has hired 10 lawyers to the practice since March, the Chicago Tribune reports. Unnamed sources told the newspaper that at least two of the new hires are earning salaries of $4 million to $5 million a year.

Law firm chairman Jaffrey Hammes did not confirm the salaries when interviewed by the Tribune, but he did acknowledge the new hires “didn’t come over for less money.”

Hammes went on his hiring spree after losing three real estate partners in March to Latham & Watkins, the story says. The latest lawyers to come on board are Andrew Small and Rachel Brown of Katten Muchin Rosenman.
