Kirkland

One of the nation’s top corporate law firms is embracing its softer side.

Following a trial program involving 60 lawyers in its Chicago office, Kirkland & Ellis is expanding Life XT to all offices, reports Crain’s Chicago Business (sub. req.). It is based on the newly published book Start Here: Master the Lifelong Habit of Wellbeing, co-authored by Chicago venture capitalist Eric Langshur and Nate Klemp.

Described by the Wall Street Journal Law Blog (sub. req.) as “emotional fitness” training, the program in Chicago included workshops for attorneys on reducing stress and improving emotional coping skills, followed by online material and seminars on yoga and meditation sessions in a conference room at Kirkland’s offices.

Partner Linda Myers, who sits on Kirkland’s executive committee, oversaw the project at the request of the chairman, reports Crain’s.

“Their initial reaction was, ‘Wow, this is so not Kirkland,’ but I think they’ve found the practices that they’ve learned from Eric and his team really helpful,” she said of the 60 attorneys who participated in the pilot program.

Those who opt to participate among the firm’s full roster of 1,400 attorneys will also receive copies of Langshur’s book.
