“Have a great weekend, and rock on!” Dave Milberg’s upbeat, hipster parting caught us off guard after our call with Schiff Hardin’s marketing and communications director for a story last week. But, it turns out Milberg, aka Radio Dave, has good reason to be cheerful: He might have one of the best law firm jobs ever.

For two weeks every month, Milberg commutes from Chicago to Longboat Key, a barrier island off the west coast of Florida, to tape his radio show, Radio Dave’s Liner Notes, where he emulates a 1950s disc jockey and entertains listeners with the “stories and myths about songs you can sing along with.” Milberg’s “groove yard” boasts the largest-known archive of original versions of Elvis Presley remakes, as well as songs about or mentioning the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

In addition to being Schiff’s resident DJ and marketing director, Milberg, who attended John Marshall Law School and is admitted to the Illinois and Florida bars, juggles his practice with the firm’s estate planning group and serves as the pro bono legal counsel to the radio station. So, what does Schiff, with its professionally curated art collection, think of Milberg’s radio gig and velvet Elvis-covered office?

“The firm is full of world-class painters, singers, photographers, even enthusiasts of car racing,” says a bashful Milberg, who’s been at the firm for 13 years. “Schiff is very supportive of those kinds of people. I’m the rule, not the exception.”

Milberg’s show plays over WSLR-96.5 LPFM from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET two Wednesdays per month. Milberg’s next broadcast will be Feb 25. Click here to listen live.
