A lawyer representing the state of California in an employment case was arrested last Tuesday, allegedly for resisting a bailiff who stepped in when the lawyer starting shouting at opposing counsel.

The lawyer, 49-year-old California Deputy Attorney General Jennie Mariah Kelly, was cited on suspicion of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor, report the San Luis Obispo Tribune, CalCoastNews.com and KSBY. The incident allegedly occurred during a court recess at the San Luis Obispo County courthouse.

Sources told the Tribune that Kelly appeared to be upset because the opposing lawyer had asked a state’s witness whether she had met with Kelly prior to testifying.

Kelly is representing the state in a wrongful termination suit. The trial resumed later in the week with both lawyers present.
