Handshake.

A Florida jury will soon consider the case of a lawyer in Delray Beach who claims another lawyer’s negligent handshake caused him severe and lasting pain.

Lawyer George Vallario Jr. is suing his onetime friend, Boca Raton lawyer Peter Lindley, the Sun Sentinel reports in a story noted by LawNewz.

The suit by Vallario, 76, claims the handshake was “unexpected, unprovoked, uninvited, unauthorized, uncalled for, and most certainly negligent.” The incident occurred at a children’s birthday party in February 2014.

Vallario told the Sun Sentinel he may not have sued if Lindley had apologized. He believes Lindley may have been trying to be funny by giving such a forceful handshake.

Vallario says was treated by an orthopedic surgeon and arthritis specialists after the injury. Lindley acknowledges there was a handshake, but denies that it caused any injury to Vallario.
