As many lawyers in London began a new year of work this week, leading practitioners predicted that a troubled global economy would have little impact on the legal services market in the foreseeable future.

For the next six months or so, senior partners at several renowned firms see a sunny future, even though they don’t expect it to be as glowing as 2007, reports the London Times. However, after that, the future could be cloudier.

“Even so, for firms with well-established international practices there seems not to be too much to worry about,” the British newspaper reports. “The old economies of the U.S., the U.K. and Western Europe may be showing their age, but the emerging economies are as bright as a button.”

Meanwhile, because of the ongoing mortgage meltdown sparked by lax U.S. lending practices in recent years and a resultant world credit crunch, fraud specialists and litigators are expected to be especially busy.
