An attorney some love to hate, Gloria Allred sees herself as a voice for the powerless—albeit, very often these days, in high-profile cases.

She so angered a California legislator, by handing him a chastity belt in response to his effort to obtain a ban on abortion decades ago, that he called her a name that eventually cost him a $20,000 settlement, reports Bloomberg in a lengthy profile.

Recently, after television host David Letterman got into hot water for admitted sexual relationships with some female staff members, she offered her thoughts in a big sign she smirkingly displayed for the camera. It suggested that he should just say no to workplace sex.

“I don’t regret any of the cases I’ve taken on,” says Allred, who practices out of an office in Los Angeles and has no plans to retire even though she is now nearly 70. “I’m not a politician. I don’t put my finger in the wind to try to determine which way it is blowing, to try to curry favor with the public. I do what I believe is right.”
