Mel Gibson Movie Releases on Pause for Child Custody Case, Domestic Abuse & Extortion Probes
Put the pause on Mel Gibson’s recent movies–as Hollywood producers certainly have. The actor’s real-life saga right now is front and center, as the industry and fans wait to see how interrelated domestic abuse and extortion probes, as well as a child-custody case, play out.
Sheriff’s detectives in Los Angeles County are still investigating whether Gibson was the victim of an extortion plot by his former girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, or someone close to her, reports the L.A. Now blog of the Los Angeles Times. It is doubtful that it will be completed before the end of the year, however.
Meanwhile, the county district attorney’s office is deciding whether to file a domestic abuse case against Gibson concerning Grigorieva. And, although few details ordinarily are publicly revealed in family court cases concerning child custody, a closed-door hearing Monday in a Los Angeles courtroom concerning the couple’s one-year-old daughter also became high-profile when details were leaked, according to the New York Times (reg. req.).
Attorney Martin Garbus, who is representing Grigorieva, tells CNN that the judge has ordered an investigation of how confidential documents “were stolen probably from the court” and reported.
