Known for its United States bankruptcy work, Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy is now launching a restructuring practice in London with the hire of the chief of the practice group from an elite United Kingdom-based law firm.

Nick Angel will be leaving Ashurst this week to become the 14th partner in Milbank’s London office, reports Legal Week.

He will be the only London partner practicing in the field, according to the legal publication. However, a Milbank press release speaks of a “team in London” that Angel is joining.

The firm describes its global restructuring practice as “a single core team” with “strong expertise across offices in restructuring, finance, corporate, litigation and tax.”

Dennis Dunne, who heads Milbank’s firmwide financial restructuring group, describes Angel in the release as “a true leader in the field of complex international restructurings” who is joining the firm at a time when it is very busy with such matters. “We feel uniquely positioned to offer a true global financial restructuring capability with enhanced depth and breadth across the office network,” he states.

“We are grateful for the contribution that Nick has made over the years and we wish him well for the future,” Ashurst says in a written statement.
