Love hasn’t been entirely a bed of roses for a wealthy young woman who has been called the Heidi Klum of foot models and her new husband—a former doorman in her swanky New York City co-op building.

Jealous of the 30-something pair, some fellow residents of the upscale Upper East Side apartment complex have been making life difficult, say newlyweds Christina Amber and Angel Rotger. They have filed suit in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan over the situation.

Coverage in the New York Daily News notes that the building superintendent’s wife at one point allegedly hit Rotger in the privates with a hard-swung handbag and says the suit seeks $10 million in damages for this and other alleged abuse.

Ambers tells the newspaper that since her marriage, she now routinely has to hail her own taxis and carry her own packages.

And Rotger tells the New York Post that he believes his Hispanic background has also been a magnet for abuse.

However, media reports are sketchy concerning the specific causes of action alleged in the lawsuit. It appears that it may assert tort claims based on the harassment accusations and housing and/or employment discrimination.

“I hope that people can understand how awful it is to come home and to then be treated with hostility in a building where I have paid a lot of money to live,” Ambers tells the Daily News. “Nobody should have to live this way.”

Attorney Joe Colbert, who represents the co-op board, says the couple’s claims have “no merit,” and promises a vigorous defense.
