Houston police have arrested a person of interest in the Nov. 6 shooting that injured Judge Julie Kocurek of Austin, Texas.

Austin police confirmed in a statement that they are aware of the arrest of the person of interest on unrelated charges, report CNN, the Austin American-Statesman, the Houston Chronicle, KXAN and KVUE. Kocurek was injured by shrapnel and glass when a shooter fired into her car as she was arriving home from a high school football game.

Sources told the publications that authorities are questioning the person of interest in connection with the shooting.

The driver of Kocurek’s car had to stop when arriving at the judge’s home because a bag of trash or garbage can had been placed in front of the security gate, police sources told the American-Statesman. The shooter fired after the driver got out of the car.

Kocurek is the presiding judge of the 390th Judicial District Court in Travis County. She remains hospitalized. A representative of her family released a statement thanking the public for their support.

“The outpouring has been a tremendous source of encouragement,” the statement said. “Judge Kocurek is receiving great care from a wonderful team of doctors and nurses. Their efforts, along with Judge Kocurek’s faith, are helping her improve every day.”
