Canadian pet food distributor Menu Foods has reached an agreement in principle to settle pet food lawsuits consolidated before a federal judge in New Jersey.

Terms of the agreement won’t be disclosed until the agreement is finalized May 1, the New Jersey Law Journal reports.

The suits say at least 3,730 pets died after eating pet food that contained toxic melamine, a contaminant in flour that had been imported from China. Menu Foods recalled 60 million containers of 90 brands of pet food early last year after its tests found a problem.

WITNTV.com has posted an interview with one of the plaintiffs, Cynthia Carrano of North Carolina, whose cat died after eating the food.
