A former assistant U.S. attorney in Puerto Rico has filed a lawsuit that claims he was treated differently that those in the office’s “girls club.”

The allegations by plaintiff Juan Milanes became public when a federal judge transferred the suit from Washington, D.C., to Puerto Rico, Legal Blog Watch reports, citing a post in Suits and Sentences.

The opinion by U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler says Milanes alleges his complaints of a hostile work environment were met with retaliation. He claims his superior, Jeanette Mercado, “assigned him the oldest and weakest narcotics cases, threatened him with disciplinary action, and attempted to sabotage his trial work,” according to the opinion.

He also alleges that acting U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Velez denied his children expense-paid enrollment at an English-language school “while still giving that benefit to her friends in a ‘Girls Club’ at the office,” the opinion says.

Milanes says his transfer to an office in Kosovo was blocked when he received a written reprimand on the day of his departure.
