A 220-attorney law firm based in Tennessee is opening an office in Washington, D.C., with a former Fulbright & Jaworski health care partner at the helm.

In addition to John Kelly, who was an assistant chief for health care fraud at the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division before heading into private practice, two other lawyers are working with him in the new office of Bass Berry & Sims. It is the firm’s fourth and the only one outside of Tennessee, the Blog of Legal Times reports in an article reprinted in the National Law Journal.

Managing partner Keith Simmons said the firm is looking to hire more laterals as it grows the office at “a reasonable, organic pace.”

In addition to health care, likely practice focuses include corporate and public securities, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, intellectual property litigation and real estate capital markets, he told the legal publication.
