TX Law Firm Dodges $1.4 M Emotional Distress Award

The Law Offices of Windle Turley saw the tables turned when an ex-client won a $1.4 million judgment for emotional distress after the firm sued him for legal fees.

Now a Texas judge has set aside the verdict, Texas Lawyer reports.

The law firm had sued ex-client Robert French to recover the value of work done in a medical malpractice suit before French took the case to another lawyer. French countersued and won in an August trial.

Judge Len Wade of Tarrant County sent an Oct. 2 letter to the lawyers in the case explaining his ruling, Texas Lawyer says. "It is the court's view that Texas law will not support a judgment in Mr. French's favor based upon the jury’s finding when it is considered in the light of the particular evidence admitted at trial,” he wrote.
