A jobless third-year student at Boston College Law School isn’t getting quite the relief that he sought.

But a $3 million gift raised with the help of a 1952 alumnus and former state attorney general will provide help with student loan payments to those who graduated within the past five years and earn $57,000 or less at a public interest job, reports the National Law Journal.

“It encourages people to get into public service or public interest efforts and to remain there,” says Francis X. Bellotti, the 1952 law graduate and former state attorney general for whom the loan forgiveness program is named. “They can’t do that if they don’t make much money.”
