A highlight of the swashbuckling Mutiny on the Bounty is an impassioned plea to a British admiralty court by midshipman Roger Byam that leads to his pardon. Franchot Tone, who played Byam, received a nomination for acting for his role. However, the movie’s sole Oscar was awarded for “outstanding production,” now known as “best picture.”
