The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a direct action against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, alleging that it pays women lawyers in non-supervisory jobs less than men who do substantially the same work and has fired two women lawyers in their fifties in order to bring in “young fresh faces” who were also less experienced.

Filed in the Southern District of New York, the federal suit (PDF) seeks wage reimbursement for affected employees, under the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, reports the New York Law Journal in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

It also seeks a court order barring further discrimination and requiring the implementation of anti-discrimination policies.
