A former attorney general in Ontario, Canada, Michael Bryant, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death after a fatal auto accident in Toronto yesterday.

The victim, a 33-year-old bicycle courier, clung to the side of a convertible for about 100 meters before he fell onto Bloor Street, reports the Calgary Herald.

An altercation between Bryant and Darcy Allan Sheppard may have preceded his death, according to the newspaper. It says video footage related to the incident was taken by security cameras and individual witnesses.

Bryant today offered his condolences to Sheppard’s family, thanked those who have offered their support to his own family and asked the media for privacy. The 43-year-old former AG is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School.
