The South Texas College of Law has abandoned plans to change its name to the Houston College of Law after a federal judge enjoined use of the new name in a trademark suit filed by the University of Houston Law Center.

The law school is devising a new name that will honor a benefactor and include the word “Houston” at the end, the Houston Chronicle reports. The new name will be told to the University of Houston Law Center by Nov. 4, and will be adopted if there are no objections.

Lawyers for South Texas College of Law said it has removed a campus banner displaying the Houston College of Law name and stopped sale of Houston College of Law merchandise. Billboards will be taken down, possibly this week.
