In the more than 15 years that he has been admitted to the Pennsylvania bar, Gary Alan Frank has had only one case.

But that one case was enough to get him into hot water with the state’s attorney disciplinary authorities. Earlier this week, Frank was suspended for a year and a day by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, for continuing to work on this one case for years after his license became inactive without notifying either the client or the court.

Although Frank, who initially undertook the divorce representation to help another lawyer, apparently meant well and he received no fee, he should have bowed out after his license became inactive in 2002, the court said in its opinion (PDF).

Frank consented to the penalty.
