All but 31 of New Jersey’s 422 judges will take voluntary two-day furloughs to help the state save money.

New Jersey’s chief justice asked the judges to take furloughs to help the state trim a $1.2 billion budget shortfall, the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports. Thirty judges refused, and another agreed to take just one day off.

The judges could not be ordered to take the furloughs because the state constitution bars judicial pay cuts. All court nonjudicial workers are also taking furloughs.

The furlough days are this Friday and Monday, June 29.
