Splashing Dolphins Blamed in Slip-and-Fall Suit

By Debra Cassens Weiss

A Chicago woman is blaming splashing by dolphins for the slippery floor that caused her fall and injuries at Brookfield Zoo in suburban Chicago last August.

The suit by Allecyn Edwards says zookeepers “recklessly and willfully trained and encouraged the dolphins to throw water at the spectators in the stands, making the floor wet and slippery,” the Southtown Star reports.

The suit (PDF posted by the Chicago Tribune) said the zoo did not warn of the slippery floor, even though it had caused prior accidents.

Sounds fishy to me.  She probably sued just for the halibut.

Will the dolphins pay any damages awarded in fish?  Will it be difficult to serve process on the dolphins?  Would dolphins consider water to be a hazard, or a lack of water to be a hazard?

Why do these articles always leave out important details?
