The most sleep-deprived people in the United Kingdom are lawyers—not just any kind of lawyers, but divorced male lawyers, aged 55, who live in London.

That finding was part of a 2,000-person survey by market research group GFK NOP, the Telegraph reports. It found that divorced London male lawyers in their 50s get an average of only four hours sleep each night.

Forty lawyers responded to the survey, Bloomberg reports. They said sleep deprivation makes them bad-tempered and emotional, leading to underperformance at work.

Fifty-seven percent of lawyers blamed bad sleep on work stress, 45 percent on an uncomfortable bed, 41 percent on family problems, 40 percent on noise, 27 percent on health worries and 25 percent on money problems.

Former Bircham Dyson Bell managing partner Michael Wood commented on the survey in a Bloomberg interview. “Lawyers are good at hiding their emotions, and underneath there’s a great deal of turmoil going on,” he said.
