It might sound a bit like an April Fool’s Day joke. But in fact a sport-utility vehicle did smash into the side of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law last night, requiring an evacuation until the Barco Law Building was declared safe to occupy at around 11 p.m., according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Tribune-Review.

An article in the Pitt News features a photograph and says it appears from debris at the scene that the vehicle was driven between two pillars about 15 feet apart and down a flight of stairs before striking the building. The unidentified driver apparently was not seriously injured and no one else was hurt.

Eyewitness Kyle Deroner, who is a senior at the university, was in a nearby parking garage when he saw a woman abruptly reverse as she was about to exit the garage. She then “floored it across the street … and head-on into the building,” he tells the student newspaper.
