Parking is going to be scarce for the next several years at a South Florida courthouse, as construction of a new facility eliminates a former parking lot.

But should jurors or workers at the Broward County Judicial Center be inconvenienced by having to take a trolley from a remote county lot? So far, officials have said employees of the court system will have to take the trolley. However, they aren’t happy about doing so and argue that individual jurors would only be inconvenienced for a short time, if they were the ones to shuttle back and forth, reports the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Potential increased absenteeism and late arrivals by those who operate the courthouse is also a concern.

Meanwhile, a Ft. Lauderdale lawyer is offering a partial solution to the problem–at a price. Bill Scherer and a group of developers arranged in 1992 to lease about 200 parking spaces from the county for $107,500 annually. The county can now lease the spaces back for $277,536 a year, in order to use them for juror parking.
