A bad relationship between a Virginia civil rights lawyer and a Washington, D.C., police officer has become a hard-fought federal court battle, as attorney Matthew LeFande seeks to hold officer Carolyn Mische-Hoeges civilly accountable for allegedly abusing her authority by pursuing a criminal case against him.

A federal stalking charge against LeFande in D.C. Superior Court was abandoned by the government several months ago. But now the solo practitioner is pursuing vindication in the nation’s capital pro se, by filing a civil malicious prosecution, false imprisonment and defamation case against Mische-Hoeges, reports the Blog of Legal Times.

Lawyers for the officer say she acted properly, in an individual capacity, by obtaining a protection order and asking for criminal prosecution of LeFande.

According to LeFande’s filing, the two dated for a little over six months between 2009 and 2010.
