Pepperdine Law’s #1 ranked Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution announces a unique MCLE program, Leadership for Attorneys in Business, taking place in January 2019 on Pepperdine’s beautiful Malibu campus. This sophisticated four-day program emphasizes skills development, with participants learning to apply their legal expertise to help public and private sector companies achieve corporate business objectives. Attendees will learn to be better lawyers, advisors, and organizational leaders by understanding and thinking about business the way executive business decision makers do.

Created with associate and general counsel, as well as private practice attorneys, as the central focus, the Leadership for Attorneys in Business program will deliver a structured approach to business management that includes tools, resources, and concepts designed to increase the value and productivity of attorneys who work within corporations, or who are charged with law practice operational responsibilities. It is a highly interactive program that enhances learning with real-life scenarios and examples from experienced practitioners.

The Straus Institute’s Managing Director, Sukhsimranjit Singh, describes Leadership for Attorneys as “a cutting edge and revolutionary program that will help attorneys think outside the box on all issues connected to their law practice, management, and leadership.”

Program participants will learn to offer legal advice that enables the achievement of business goals, understand financial reporting and the financial impact of legal advice, work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and internal clients, frame advice for maximum impact, and build relationships with key decision-makers. The four-day program takes place January 28 - January 31, 2019 at the Pepperdine University Drescher graduate campus and includes an opening night dinner featuring keynote speaker Tom Stipanowich, Professor of Law and Dean of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

Program topics include general counsel culture, finance reporting and decision making, working towards agreement, and leadership skills. Featured faculty include Vince Chiappetta, Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Business Lawyering Institute, Nicole Thibodeau, Associate Professor of Accounting Practice at Willamette University and President of Nthand Co Management Consultants, Sukhsimranjit Singh, Managing Director for the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, and Jo Smith, Management Consultant and Leadership Coach to Lawyers.

The Leadership for Attorneys in Business program is provided in collaboration with the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University and is approved for 24 hours of MCLE credit by the State Bar of California.

The program will take place January 28-31, 2019 in Malibu, CA. For additional information, detailed class schedule and to register, visit the event website here. For questions or to receive additional information, email Lori Rushford, Program Administrator.
