2026 BOARD OF GOVERNORS ELECTION

At the 2026 midyear meeting, the Nominating Committee will announce nominations for district and at-large positions on the ABA Board of Governors for terms beginning at the conclusion of the 2026 annual conference and ending at the conclusion of the 2029 annual conference. Pursuant to Section 2.1 of the association’s constitution, the committee will nominate individuals from the following states to represent the noted districts: Maine (District 1); Massachusetts (District 2); District of Columbia (District 4); Maryland (District 6); U.S. Virgin Islands (District 8); Tennessee (District 12); and Iowa (District 19). The Nominating Committee also will nominate members from the Section of Litigation, the Health Law Section and the Law Practice Division to serve as section members-at-large; two Goal III members-at-large who meet the requirements outlined in §7.3 of the association’s constitution; and one young lawyer member-at-large. ABA MEDAL NOMINATIONS

The Profession, Public Service, and Diversity Com- mittee of the American Bar Association Board of Governors invites your nominations for the 2026 ABA Medal. The nomination form, guidelines for awarding the medal, and a list of past recipients can be found at ambar.org/abamedal. Please submit the nomination, including biographical information about the nominee, to [email protected] by Monday, Jan. 5. The ABA Medal will be awarded at the 2026 annual conference as a part of the many planned activities commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

2026 MIDYEAR NOMINATING COMMITTEE BUSINESS SESSION, CANDIDATES FORUM AND VOTING SESSION

The Nominating Committee will meet in conjunction with the 2026 midyear meeting at 9 a.m. CST on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Candidates Forum will immediately follow the business session, and association members are invited to hear from candidates for president-elect who will be seeking nomination at the 2027 midyear meeting. After the Candidates Forum, the Nominating Committee will meet in executive session to nominate candidates for election by the House of Delegates.

AMENDMENTS TO THE ABA CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS

The ABA Constitution and Bylaws may be amended upon action of the House of Delegates only at an- nual meetings. The next annual meeting of the House of Delegates will be Aug. 3-4 in Chicago. Proposals to amend either the constitution or bylaws may be submitted by any ABA member. For a proposed amendment to be considered at the 2026 annual meeting, it must be received electronically by the Policy and Planning Division. Proposed amendments should be addressed to the attention of the ABA secretary and submitted directly to [email protected] by Friday, March 6. 2026 STATE DELEGATE VACANCY ELECTION

The deadline for the state delegate vacancy elections for the states of Alaska, Idaho, and Oregon was Monday, Nov. 10. Only one nominating petition was filed for each of the states. In accordance with §6.3(e) of the ABA constitution, if only one nominating petition is filed, the Board of Elections shall certify to the chair of the House that the sole nominee is elected. The Board of Elections certified the following state Delegates: Lori A. Colbert of Alaska for the 2025–2028 term; Michael J. Oths of Idaho for the 2025–2027 term; and Shayda Le of Oregon for the 2025–2027 term.

2026 CALL FOR NOMINATIONS TO COMMITTEE ON SCOPE AND CORRELATION OF WORK

One member of the Committee on Scope and Correlation of Work will be elected for a five-year term commencing at the conclusion of the 2026 annual conference and expiring at the conclusion of the 2031 annual conference. Scope was created by the House of Delegates, and it has a mission to study “the structure, functions, and work of sections, committees and other ABA entities, making recommendations to the House of Delegates or Board of Governors to help correlate the work of the association as a whole and better allocate the ABA’s resources.” Interested candidates should submit an electronic copy of their general professional resumé, a resumé of their ABA activities and a cover letter to Carri Kerber no later than Friday, March 27. Nominees will be informed of the Nominating Committee’s decision by June.
