A group of nine real estate and corporate attorneys are moving from Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal to the Los Angeles office of Seyfarth Shaw.

The five partners in the group are expected to be joined today by four associates, according to a Seyfarth press release.

“Seyfarth Shaw has long planned to build out its business services capabilities in Southern California, and the addition of this talented group of attorneys helps us to further realize this aspect of our strategic vision for the firm,” says J. Stephen Poor, Seyfarth’s chairman and managing partner, in the press release. “Our new colleagues deepen our real estate bench and add a corporate and finance component to our work that we hadn’t had locally.”

The new Seyfarth partners are corporate and finance practitioners Shirley Curfman and Harumi Hata, and real estate practitioners Amadeo Cantu Jr., J. Dean Heller and Robert Johnson.

Both firms are based in Chicago and have roughly 700 lawyers each.

Seyfarth, which is particularly known for its employment expertise, has expanded both its geographic range and practice base in recent years, and now has 10 offices in the United States and Brussels, Belgium.

Sonnenschein has 15 offices in the U.S. and Brussels, including a new office in Zurich, Switzerland, which it announced today.
