Michigan State University graduate Brandon Eckerle, who boasted a 3.98 GPA, has put law school plans on hold after being drafted last week by the Detroit Tigers in the 32nd round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.

Eckerle says he weighed the options with his family and coach and decided law school—the Detroit Free Press reported last week that Eckerle had been accepted to Michigan State University College of Law—takes second place to fulfilling his childhood dream, the Flint Journal reported.

“[They said] ‘Law school can wait, you’ll never have this opportunity again if you pass this up,’ ” Eckerle said. “I realized everyone was right, and this was something I should do. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
