Disbarred lawyer, released from prison due to cancer, says killers of police were 'avengers'
Disbarred lawyer Lynne Stewart says the terminal cancer that led to her release from prison in late 2013 is draining her of energy.
But that didn’t stop her from making controversial statements in an interview with the Associated Press. “Stewart is still as radical as ever,” the AP story says, “even expressing support for the killers of police officers.”
Stewart was sent to prison for aiding terrorism by passing messages from an imprisoned terrorist client to his followers. In the AP interview, Stewart said gunmen who killed police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge may have briefly deterred police shootings of unarmed civilians.
The gunmen who killed the police officers “are avengers,” Stewart said. “They are not brazen, crazed, you know, insane killers. They are avenging deaths that are never and have never been avenged since the ’60s and ’70s.”
Stewart told AP that violence can change society, allowing “the more peaceable shepherds among us to approach the wolf.”
