In this episode of Asked and Answered, professional organizer Janet Taylor speaks with the ABA Journal’s Stephanie Francis Ward to share tips and tricks for finally conquering mounds of paperwork and constantly lost house keys.

Are you someone who wants to look at paperwork, or have it filed away? If you’re the former, Taylor advises getting hanging folders. She also suggests going through all the paperwork when a project wraps up, and determining right away what you need to keep and what can get tossed. If you are required to hang onto contracts or court filings for a certain time period, she advises using an electronic calendar to mark the date of when you are free to get rid of the information.

If you are interested in hiring an organizer, Taylor advises getting references from someone who has had a project done that is similar to what you want to accomplish. She noted that if you are letting someone into your home or work space, it’s important to have someone who is discreet.
