On Oct. 31, for the second year in a row, Akron Municipal Court Judge Nicole Walker will be officiating Halloween-themed weddings.

Last year, 20 couples lined up for the spooky ceremony at the Akron Civic Theatre, and the Ohio court announced on Facebook that 16 have signed up to take the plunge in 2018. “Costumes are welcomed for the weddings, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis,” reports Cleveland.com. The Akron Municipal Court will be posting photos from the event to Twitter and Facebook.

People choose to be married in civil ceremonies all the time, for myriad reasons. Maybe the plans for the ceremony were a little too out there to take place in a house of worship. Some see it as a cost-saving measure; others may have a dear friend who is a judge.

This got us thinking: What’s the most memorable civil wedding ceremony you’ve ever heard of or attended? Was there an unusual setting or a heartwarming (or hair-raising) story behind the wedding?
