Wife Sees Silver Lining in Lawyer’s Sex-Video Extortion Arrest
The wife of a tax lawyer arrested in a sex-video extortion attempt sees a silver lining in the adversity: Their marriage has noticeably improved.
Steven Klig, a former partner at accounting firm Deloitte, was accused last year of trying to blackmail a former lover by threatening to release a secretly taped sex video, the New York Post reports. He pleaded guilty in May to illegally accessing an unsecured wireless computer network to find the former lover and make the threat, the story says. Sentencing is set for Friday.
Klig’s wife, Ellen, says in court papers that she thought her life was over at the time of the arrest. At the time, Klig had withdrawn from the family because of job-related stress, Ellen Klig said. Since then, she and her husband have gotten psychological help, they are communicating again, and their marriage is stronger.
“As a couple, we have rebounded to the point that after 20 years of marriage, we renewed our wedding vows and our commitment to each other and to our family,” Ellen Klig wrote.
For his part, Klig blames the scheme on a sleep disorder, the story says. “I really have no explanation other than I strongly believe … I was in a world that existed somewhere between insanity and sanity,” he wrote.
