Legal industry hiring is on the rebound.

The legal services sector added 4,700 jobs in April following slight declines in February and March, according to seasonally adjusted, revised numbers released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The sector lost 700 jobs in March and 900 jobs in February, according to tables here and here.

The April 2022 number represents a gain of 31,700 jobs since April 2021 and a gain of 14,900 jobs from the pre-pandemic high of 1,163,000 legal jobs in February 2020.

The legal industry had 1,177,900 jobs in April, 1,173,200 jobs in March, 1,173,900 in February, and 1,174,800 jobs in January, according to the revised and seasonally adjusted numbers.

The jobs number is based on payroll jobs for attorneys and staff members working at firms providing legal services. The jobs data can change in monthly revisions and in the annual look-back process.
