The legal services sector has gained 13,900 jobs since the pre-pandemic high of 1,163,000 legal jobs set in February 2020.

Legal employment in March 2022 was 1,176,900 jobs, according to preliminary, seasonally adjusted data by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The March number is a gain of 1,700 jobs since the prior month and a gain of 32,800 jobs since March 2021.

The job numbers first broke the pre-pandemic records in October 2021.

The March gain of 1,700 jobs followed a gain of 400 jobs in February, according to the seasonally adjusted and revised numbers.

The jobs number is based on payroll jobs for attorneys and staff members working at firms providing legal services. The jobs data can change in monthly revisions, and in the annual look-back process.
